What is a connected or smart fireplace?
A connected fireplace is an intelligent or smart fireplace that has the ability to connect via WiFi (or other wireless protocol), communicate and receive instructions. The Internet of Things (IoT) is developing. It is a set of technologies and infrastructures put in place to operate various systems through an Internet connection. The advantage of a connected smart fireplace is that it has its own digital identity. Depending on the needs of the user, it can therefore be controlled remotely (API) by a smartphone App, a voice assistant, a laptop, a smart home system (home automation), etc.

Voice-activated smart fireplace – Fireplaces with voice assistant
“A voice command is an input interface on a computer system allowing commands to be given using voice messages. The user speaks into a microphone and a computer coupled with voice recognition software, analyzes their words and determines the command to execute” Wikipedia. With this voice control system, a user will be able to control his fireplace by voice with Alexa, Siri, Google home, etc.
Fireplaces connected through an API application programming interface
AFIRE has developed an API application programming interface that offers all connection options to control the functionalities of its smart fireplaces. This software platform allows other user software to connect and control the fireplace with their applications. This feature is particularly valuable for home automation applications, hospitality sector control software and all applications that control connected systems.
The fireplace and the Internet of Things – Smart home automation fireplace control
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have a multitude of practical uses in everyday life. Home automation already present in major areas has extended its field of application to household electrical appliances. A connected fireplace has a digital identity and can be connected via WiFi. It therefore has the ability to be controlled remotely by any type of command. It can also be linked to Smart Home automation systems, Smart Building Automation, etc.
However, for safety reasons, it is necessary to be attentive to the types of fireplaces concerned. These technological advances are particularly interesting for electric fireplaces and especially for water vapor fireplaces with cold flames. On the other hand, it is necessary to properly assess the potential dangers for open fireplaces with hot flames (untimely starts, safety of controls, etc.)
